Wooden Valley Winery held its Festa del Raccolto harvest celebration on September 29, 2007. Wine Club members spent a late afternoon and evening enjoying Wooden Valley Wines, grape stomping, dinner, and dancing. It was perfect fall weather, a warm and clear day, cooling off a bit in the evening. The chill was staved off with heaters and dancing.
Dinner was served family style and catered by Chef Daniel Bell of Chef to Go Catering. Passing dishes down the long tables was a big hit, bringing the guests together and adding to the fun, casual atmosphere of the event.
There were three grape stomping heats for guests to compete in for a signed magnum of Cabernet Sauvignon. The soundtrack for the event was provided by J. Silverheels Band. Their live music provided great entertainment and got everyone dancing by the end of the evening.
Thanks to everyone who joined us for this fun and special harvest event. We couldn't be happier to celebrate another great harvest, and to do so with our ever growing Wooden Valley family. We hope you'll join us next year!
In today's busy world we understand that you may not always be able to find the time for an enjoyable visit to Wooden
Valley Winery. You might just want to pick-up a bottle of wine on your way home, or enjoy our wine at a local restaurant.

NONNA'S RISOTTO
Serve with Wooden Valley Red Wine
| Carne Rolla |
|
2 Cups bread crumbs
2 Cloves garlic, finely chopped
|
2 Cups parmesan cheese
1 Cup finely chopped parsley
1 small onion chopped fine |
| Directions: Prepare: 3 lbs. top round steak cut 1/4 in. thick and tenderized by
butcher.
Cut steak into 3" wide pieces and pound until thin.
Set aside and make filling.
Mix all ingredients together, season with salt and pepper
and moisten with olive oil. Season meat with salt and
pepper and then spread some filling on each piece of meat,
roll and secure with kitchen twine. Using heavy
skillet or dutch oven, brown meat rolls in 1/2 butter & 1/2
olive oil. Brown meat well as this helps create sauce. Remove
meat from pan and add 1/2 Cup chopped onion, 1 cup each chopped
celery and carrots, 3 cloves chopped garlic; saute until
translucent. Add 1 can tomato sauce and cook for a few
minutes, then deglaze pan with red wine & cook until wine
reduces by half. Add 1 can beef broth, return meat rolls
to pan and simmer until tender. Thicken sauce if necessary
with some left over filling. Season to taste and
finish with 1/2 cup fresh parsley. |

Marylou Silva is our featured employee for this
issue. Marylou has been working at Wooden Valley
Winery since March of 2002, becoming our
Lead Sales Associate in May of 2004. As Lead Sales
Associate, Marylou has extra responsibilities,
including but not limited to, assisting the Tasting
Room Manager, training new employees, and taking
a lead position when other management isn’t
available, such as on the weekends. A very conscientious
employee and always a team player, Marylou is
always prepared to perform any task that needs
to be completed, and does so with an ever present
sweet disposition. Her work ethic and pleasant
personality have created great relationships with
co-workers. Customer service is Marylou’s
priority. She takes the time to get to know customers
who make regular visits to the winery, learning
their preferences and understanding which wines
they’ll most enjoy.
Outside of work, Marylou is a dedicated wife and
mother to her husband and little girl who is just
over two years old. Since having her baby in 2005,
Marylou has cut her hours at Wooden Valley. We
feel very fortunate that we get her every other
weekend. If you are lucky enough to visit on her
weekend please say hello to Marylou; without a
doubt, your visit will be all the more enjoyable.
Marylou is a very important part of the Wooden Valley
family. We don’t know what we would do without
her.

This harvest season brought the Second Annual Fun Family
Farm Days to Suisun Valley. Fun Family Farm Days
happen once a month in August, September, and October.
The valley’s farms, wineries, and businesses
collectively open their doors to the public and host
a variety of activities for families to enjoy.
Each month different activities are offered, and on
September 24, 2007, Wooden Valley Winery offered barrel
tasting for adults and grape stomping for kids. The
fun started at 11:00 a.m. and didn’t stop until
5:00 p.m. that afternoon! See images from the
day below.
