Ron Lanza's BBQ kabobs

When I was a young boy, I was taught that relationships with family and friends should be honored and enjoyed.   As my own boys grow and my life gets busier, I find myself appreciating and working hard to keep memories and traditions of my youth alive. Of course, I’ve had to put my own twist on things so I’ve spent many winter evenings, wine in hand, grilling something to share with whoever happens to be sitting at my dinner table.

Last night we had some friends over, opened a couple of bottles of wine and enjoyed a great dinner. Life doesn’t get much better. Salute!!

Wooden Valley’s Vines at Rest

Wooden Valley Winery's sleeping vines in Suisun Valley CA

Wooden Valley Winery's vineyards in their dormant state

They look like they’re sleeping but actually these vines are gearing up for the 2010 growing season. During winter dormancy the fluid inside the vine actually slows down and the “juice” of the vine stays low.  The roots are still very active and the vines are accumulating energy for the next growing season.

Never underestimate the benefits of a good rest!

The Lanza Family

As far back as I can remember, my family has gathered around Nonna’s large table to share food, wine and stories. In such a busy world, I appreciate every time we can get the entire family together for a meal. I especially love sharing it with my four boys; as they grow and have their own families hopefully they’ll carry the memories and traditions with them. This family get together happens to be Nonna’s 95th Birthday.
